Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) rule is in the implementation process of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, as per the rule, it is the responsibility of Producers, Importers and Brand-owners to ensure the processing of their plastic packaging waste through recycling, re-use or end of life disposal. Extended Producer Responsibility is an environmental policy approach adopted to reduce plastic waste. EPR targets making the producer responsible for the entire lifecycle of his plastic product from production up to post-consumer disposal. The burden of waste management will then be shifted from governments to manufacturers and importers of plastic goods.
