IS 15885 (Part 2/Sec 13): 2012 Title: Safety of Lamp Controlgear – Part 2: Particular Requirements – Section 13: d.c. or a.c. Supplied Electronic Controlgear for LED Modules.

This standard is harmonized with the international benchmark IEC 61347-2-13, ensuring that Indian safety protocols align with global manufacturing practices.

This certification is strictly applicable to Electronic Controlgear (LED Drivers) designed for use on:

• D.C. Supplies: Up to 250 V.
• A.C. Supplies: Up to 1000 V (at 50 Hz or 60 Hz).

Note: This covers both independent drivers (external units) and built-in controlgear utilized specifically for LED modules.

Our testing protocol rigorously evaluates the controlgear against extreme conditions to ensure zero failure in the field. Key testing areas include:

• Electric Strength & Insulation Resistance: Verifying protection against electric shock.
• Thermal Endurance: Testing component stability under high-temperature operations.
• Fault Conditions: Simulating short-circuits to ensure the driver fails safely without fire hazards.
• Creepage & Clearance: Measuring internal spacing to prevent arcing.
• Mechanical Strength: Ensuring the casing withstands impact and environmental stress.

Testing must be conducted exclusively at laboratories holding valid accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and recognized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Reports from non-recognized labs are not accepted for BIS registration.

While timelines can fluctuate based on lab capacity, the standard industry turnaround is:

• Testing Phase: 12 – 15 Working Days.
• BIS Registration Processing: 15 – 20 Working Days.
• Total Time: Approximately 30 – 40 Working Days.

To ensure uninterrupted testing (including destructive tests), the following sample count is typically required:

• 2 Completed Units (Finished goods).
• 1 Open Unit (Unpotted/Unsealed) for internal component verification and PCB analysis.

Certification costs are dynamic and depend on specific technical variables of your product:

• Series Formation: Grouping multiple models into a single series (based on output rating and PCB layout) can significantly reduce costs.
• Technical Specs: Dimmable vs. Non-dimmable and Potting material variations affect the testing scope.
