The procedure for obtaining
BIS CRS certification is a simplified, self-declaration-based model, but it still requires meticulous attention to detail and documentation. Here is the streamlined process we guide you through:
Step 1: Product Classification and Document Preparation
The first step is for our team to determine the exact product category and the relevant Indian Standard (IS) number applicable to your goods. Simultaneously, we assist you in compiling all necessary documents, including:
- Manufacturing Unit Details (Name, Address, GPS coordinates, etc.).
- Business Registration Proof of the manufacturer.
- Technical product specifications (schematic diagrams, critical components list, etc.).
- Nomination of an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) for foreign manufacturers.
Step 2: Product Testing at a BIS-Recognized Laboratory
The product must be submitted for safety testing at a BIS-recognized and NABL-accredited laboratory in India.
- Testing is done against the relevant IS code (e.g., IS 13252 (Part 1) for IT equipment).
- The laboratory conducts all necessary tests and issues a detailed Test Report. This report is the backbone of your application and must be no older than 90 days at the time of submission.
Step 3: Online Application Submission and BIS CRS Login
Once the Test Report is secured, we proceed to the online application on the BIS portal.
- The manufacturer or the Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) uses their designated BIS CRS login credentials to access the Manak-Online CRS portal.
- The application form (Form I) is meticulously filled out, including all manufacturer details, product models, and testing information.
- All supporting documents, including the Test Report and the Declaration of Conformity, are uploaded to the portal.
Step 4: Application Review and Grant of BIS CRS Certificate
The BIS officials review the submitted application and documents.
- They verify the accuracy of the Test Report and the completeness of the documentation.
- Once satisfied that the product conforms to the Indian Standard, the BIS grants the registration.
- The manufacturer is issued the BIS CRS certificate and a unique Registration Number (R-number).
Step 5: Product Marking
The final step is to apply the mandatory Standard Mark
(CRS Mark) along with the unique R-number on the product itself and/or its packaging, instruction manual, and shipping documents, as per BIS guidelines. This marks the product ready for legal sale in the Indian market.
