Under IS 16102, Part 1: 2012 in India, Self-Ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting Services must have the BIS CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) Certificate. It guarantees compliance with BIS criteria, safety, and quality of products. Manufacturers have to apply using the BIS site after having their goods tested in a lab accredited under BIS. Authorized Indian Representatives (AIR) are required of foreign manufacturers. Following review, BIS assigns the CRS registration number, therefore enabling the BIS CRS Mark to be used. The process runs four to six weeks; compliance needs to be kept up to date. Marketing LED bulbs in India depends on this certification.
