Standalone Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) with an output voltage of up to 48V in India must be certified in BIS CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme), therefore guaranteeing product safety and quality. Under IS 13252 (Part 1), 2010, it covers manufacturers—domestic and foreign—selling on the Indian market. Product testing at a BIS-approved lab, documentation submission, online application, and BIS approval forms part of the procedure. Foreign producers have to name an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR). Valid for two years, the certification is renewed. Legal market entrance in India, consumer safety, and compliance depend on it.
