The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has increased its regulatory control over fire-safe storage solutions by bringing out a new notice for Fire-Resistant Record Protection Cabinets. According to the “Fire-Resistant Cabinets (Quality Control) Order, 2025,” these special cabinets must now closely follow Indian Standard (IS) rules to keep essential papers safe from fire.
Applicable Standard
All products classified under this category must now be certified against:
- IS 14203 : 2023 – Fire Resisting Record Protection Cabinets — Specification.
This standard makes sure that cabinets are put through tough tests for fire resistance and impact, which protects paper records and electronic material to a certified level.
Enforcement Timeline
The Ministry has suggested the following compliance periods, starting from the date of official publication in the Gazette, to make the transition easier for the industry:
- General Manufacturers: 6 Months
- Small Enterprises (SSE): 9 Months
- Micro Enterprises: 12 Months
