Under IS 16506 (Part 2): 2018, in line with IEC 62133-2, power banks in India must have the BIS CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) Certificate. For lithium-ion batteries applied in portable devices, it guarantees safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. Manufacturers have to test power banks in a BIS-approved lab and apply using the BIS portal (manakonline.in) together with necessary paperwork. Products approved have to show the BIS CRS logo and registration number. Two years is the validity of certification; renewal is required. For compliance, foreign producers have to name an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR).
