Agro Textiles - Shade Nets for Agriculture and Horticulture Purposes – Shade Nets Made must carry the ISI mark. The Indian Standard for it is IS 16008 (Part 2). The rule applies in stages, starting from Oct 2024. The legal order is: Geo Textiles / Agro Textiles QCOs, 2024; effective Oct-2024. You cannot make, import, sell or store this product for sale in India without a valid BIS licence.
How it works: a BIS-approved lab tests your samples against IS 16008 (Part 2). A BIS officer then visits your factory. If everything is in order, BIS gives you a licence. You can then print the ISI mark with your licence number (CM/L number). Factories outside India apply under the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS). They must also name a representative in India, called an Authorised Indian Representative (AIR).
Every year you pay BIS a minimum marking fee. It is ₹23,200 for micro firms and ₹1,16,000 for large firms. The fee also depends on how much you make: ₹0.80 per 100 sq m. You pay whichever amount is higher. Lab testing costs about ₹17,885 – ₹96,100 per sample, based on quotes from 2 BIS-approved labs. These prices are a guide only and do not include GST.
