Overview of LED Luminaire Testing (IS 10322)
- Tested by
- BIS-recognised partner lab
- Regulation
- IS 10322 & BIS CRS
- Typical turnaround
- 10–15 working days
- Sample needed
- 2–4 units per model
LED luminaires sold in India must be registered with BIS under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). Safety is tested to IS 10322: Part 1 sets general requirements, and the sections of Part 5 cover particular types such as fixed general-purpose luminaires, recessed luminaires, road and street lights, flood lights and others. The LED driver is tested separately to its own standard, IS 15885.
Tests cover marking, construction, creepage and clearance, earthing, insulation resistance, electric strength, heating, ingress protection and resistance to heat and fire. Government tenders, smart-city projects and energy-efficiency programmes also ask for photometric (LM-79) data such as lumen output, efficacy and light distribution. Self-ballasted LED lamps follow a different standard; see IS 16102.
