Breathe Easy: The n-Butyl Acrylate QCO is Officially Suspended (Again)

If you are in the business of manufacturing, importing, or relying on n-Butyl Acrylate, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers just handed you a much-needed breather.

According to the latest gazette notification—officially titled the Temporary Suspension of n-Butyl Acrylate QCO (2nd Order)—the government is hitting the pause button on mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for a little while longer.

Here is exactly what this new notification means for your operations and why you shouldn't put your compliance plans on the back burner just yet.

Why the Delay?

The chemical industry has been vocal about the logistical hurdles of immediate QCO implementation. From global supply chain hiccups to the sheer volume of pending testing, bringing everyone into immediate compliance with IS 14709:1999 was proving disruptive.

Just like we recently saw with the QCO suspensions for Linear Alkyl Benzene and Morpholine, the government is listening. This 2nd Order is designed to prevent domestic manufacturing bottlenecks. It ensures that downstream industries—those producing paints, adhesives, and textiles—aren't starved of this critical reactive monomer while the industry catches up.

What This Means for You Right Now

  • Uninterrupted Operations: You can continue to manufacture, import, and sell n-Butyl Acrylate domestically without the mandatory ISI Mark for the duration of this extended suspension.
  • Export Rules Haven't Changed: Remember, if you are strictly manufacturing n-Butyl Acrylate for export, the QCO never applied to you anyway. You are still exempt.
  • The Clock is Still Ticking: A suspension is not a cancellation. The mandate will come into force.

Don't Waste the Grace Period

It is tempting to file this notification away and forget about it until next year. That would be a mistake.

Testing for the five mandatory parameters (Assay, Acidity, Colour, Water Content, and Inhibitors) takes time. Labs will get heavily backlogged the closer we get to the new enforcement date. Using this temporary suspension to get your documentation in order, run your pre-audits, and secure your BIS license now will put you miles ahead of the competition when the grace period abruptly ends.

At InstaCertify, we are keeping a close eye on the Ministry's timeline. If you want to use this downtime to get your BIS application moving without the last-minute panic, reach out to our compliance team today.
