Under the Quality Control Order (QCO) 2024 firms must follow the Indian Standards (IS). Key IS codes are IS 13983:1994 (stainless steel sinks), IS 9396:1988 (tinplate food cans), IS 1660:2009 (aluminium utensils), IS 14756:2022 (stainless steel cookware), and IS 14407: 1996 (aluminium beverage cans). Manufacturers have to apply for a BIS licence, have factory inspections, and satisfy product testing criteria. Certification dates range from April 1, 2025 (big firms), July 1, 2025 (small), October 1, 2025 (micro).
