Uncoated stress relieved low relaxation seven-wire (ply) strand for prestressed concrete must carry the ISI mark. The Indian Standard for it is IS 14268. This has been the rule since 29 Aug 2024. The legal order is: Steel & Steel Products (QC) Order 2024 - SO 3716(E) 29.08.2024 (+2026 Amdt). You cannot make, import, sell or store this product for sale in India without a valid BIS licence.

How it works: a BIS-approved lab tests your samples against IS 14268. A BIS officer then visits your factory. If everything is in order, BIS gives you a licence. You can then print the ISI mark with your licence number (CM/L number). Factories outside India apply under the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS). They must also name a representative in India, called an Authorised Indian Representative (AIR).

Every year you pay BIS a minimum marking fee. It is ₹20,000 for micro firms and ₹1,00,000 for large firms. The fee also depends on how much you make: ₹34.60 per tonne. You pay whichever amount is higher. Lab testing costs about ₹15,000 – ₹1,20,000 per sample, based on quotes from 2 BIS-approved labs. These prices are a guide only and do not include GST.
