Is BIS CRS certification mandatory for keyboards?
Yes, as per IS/IEC 62368-1:2023, all computer keyboards must be BIS-certified before sale in India.
How long does BIS certification take?
It usually takes 4–6 weeks, depending on testing and document approval.
Can foreign manufacturers apply for BIS certification?
Yes, but they must appoint an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR).
Where can I apply for BIS CRS certification?
You can apply online through the BIS portal (www.bis.gov.in).
How long is BIS certification valid?
BIS CRS certification is valid for two years and can be renewed.
Can I still register this product under IS 13252 (Part 1):2010?
Yes, until 1 November 2028. IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 has replaced IS 13252 (Part 1):2010, and until that date you can choose either standard; after it the old standard is withdrawn. We recommend testing to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 now, so you will not need a new test report later. Testing starts from ₹35,000.
