- Registration per model per factory; renewal as per BIS CRS guidelines. IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 replaces IS 616:2017 / IS 13252 (Part 1):2010; the old standard can still be used until 1 Nov 2028, after which it is withdrawn.

Is BIS CRS certification mandatory for smart speakers?
Yes, it is mandatory under IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 for selling smart speakers in India.
How long does BIS CRS registration take?
It usually takes 4-6 weeks, depending on testing and document approval.
Can foreign manufacturers apply for BIS CRS?
Yes, but they must appoint an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR).
Where can I test my smart speaker for BIS approval?
Only in BIS-recognized laboratories in India.
What happens after BIS approval?
You must display the BIS CRS mark on your product.
Can I still register this product under IS 616:2017?
Yes, until 1 November 2028. IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 has replaced IS 616:2017, and until that date you can choose either standard; after it the old standard is withdrawn. We recommend testing to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 now, so you will not need a new test report later. Testing starts from ₹35,000.
