Overview of Bricks, Blocks & Tiles Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- IS 1077, IS 2185, IS 15658
- Typical turnaround
- 5–7 working days
- Sample needed
- 10–20 units per lot
Masonry units are accepted on compressive strength, water absorption, efflorescence and dimensions. Clay bricks follow IS 1077 with tests in IS 3495, fly ash bricks IS 12894, and concrete and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) blocks the IS 2185 series, where density and drying shrinkage also matter. Interlocking paver blocks for roads and yards follow IS 15658.
Ceramic and vitrified tiles are tested for water absorption, breaking strength, abrasion resistance and dimensional accuracy. Manufacturers use results to support tenders and BIS licences where they apply, and builders and architects to approve a supplier before bulk orders.
