Overview of Solar Inverter & Charge Controller Testing
- Tested by
- BIS-recognised partner lab
- Regulation
- IS 16221, IS 16169
- Typical turnaround
- 4–6 weeks
- Sample needed
- 2–3 units per model
Inverters for solar systems fall under the same BIS registration requirement as modules. Safety is tested to IS 16221 (Parts 1 and 2, adopted from IEC 62109), and grid-tied inverters must pass the anti-islanding test of IS 16169, which checks that the inverter disconnects when the grid fails so that line workers are not put at risk.
DISCOMs and rooftop solar schemes also look at conversion efficiency, power quality (harmonics, power factor) and grid-support functions. Off-grid and hybrid systems are tested with their batteries and charge controllers. Storage batteries for solar systems have their own standard, IS 16270.
What we do for you
- Lab and parameter list chosen for your purpose: licence, export, buyer or internal QC
- Sampling guidance, and pickup or on-site sampling where needed
- One contact who follows up with the lab until the report is issued
- Report explained in plain language, with next steps if a result fails
