Overview of Solar PV Module Testing
- Tested by
- BIS-recognised partner lab
- Regulation
- IS 14286 & IS/IEC 61730
- Typical turnaround
- 6–10 weeks
- Sample needed
- 8–10 modules per type
Solar PV modules sold in India must be registered with BIS under the government’s order for solar photovoltaic products, based on tests to IS 14286 (the Indian adoption of IEC 61215, design qualification) and IS/IEC 61730 (safety). Manufacturers supplying government-backed and many other projects must also be on MNRE’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
The test sequence exposes modules to thermal cycling, damp heat, humidity-freeze, UV, mechanical load and hail, and checks power loss, insulation and wet leakage after each stress. Developers and lenders often add potential-induced degradation (PID) and electroluminescence (EL) imaging to catch cell cracks from transport and installation.
What we do for you
- Lab and parameter list chosen for your purpose: licence, export, buyer or internal QC
- Sampling guidance, and pickup or on-site sampling where needed
- One contact who follows up with the lab until the report is issued
- Report explained in plain language, with next steps if a result fails
