PVC insulated wires and cables are covered by compulsory BIS certification. IS 694 covers wires and cables for working voltages up to 1100 V, IS 1554 heavy-duty PVC power cables and IS 7098 XLPE cables. Undersized conductors and thin insulation are the most common defects in the market, and both are fire risks.
Tests measure conductor resistance, insulation and sheath thickness, high-voltage withstand, insulation resistance, tensile and elongation of the insulation before and after ageing, and flame retardance. Flame-retardant, low-smoke and halogen-free variants are tested for smoke density, acid gas and oxygen index. Builders, electrical contractors and government projects use test reports to approve brands.
What we do for you
- Lab and parameter list chosen for your purpose: licence, export, buyer or internal QC
- Sampling guidance, and pickup or on-site sampling where needed
- One contact who follows up with the lab until the report is issued
- Report explained in plain language, with next steps if a result fails
