Switches (IS 3854), plugs and socket-outlets (IS 1293), miniature circuit breakers (IS/IEC 60898-1) and residual current devices (IS 12640) are among the oldest products under compulsory BIS certification, because a failure can cause shock or fire. Modular switch makers and importers need test reports for the ISI licence and each new range.
Tests include temperature rise, breaking capacity, normal operation (thousands of switching cycles), mechanical strength, resistance to heat and tracking, and glow-wire. For MCBs and RCCBs, tripping characteristics and short-circuit performance decide whether the device actually protects the circuit. Test programmes are long, so plan them early in a launch.
What we do for you
- Lab and parameter list chosen for your purpose: licence, export, buyer or internal QC
- Sampling guidance, and pickup or on-site sampling where needed
- One contact who follows up with the lab until the report is issued
- Report explained in plain language, with next steps if a result fails
