Overview of Soil Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- Soil Health Card norms & EP Act
- Typical turnaround
- 5–7 working days
- Sample needed
- 500 g–1 kg per composite
For agriculture, the Soil Health Card scheme tests 12 parameters: pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, zinc, iron, copper, manganese and boron. Farms, plantations, FPOs and agri-input companies use these results to plan balanced fertiliser doses, and for organic and good agricultural practice certification.
For industrial and project land, soil is tested for heavy metals, pesticides, petroleum hydrocarbons and other contaminants, as part of environmental baseline studies, due diligence before buying or leasing land, and decommissioning. Engineering soil properties for foundations are a separate geotechnical investigation.
