India has published standards for office chairs, tables and desks, and storage units, and the government has notified a quality control order to bring office furniture under BIS certification. Implementation dates have changed, so check the current position for your product with us. Government and corporate tenders already ask for test reports to these or equivalent standards.
Tests apply repeated loads to seats, backs, arms, tops and drawers, check stability against tipping, and run durability cycles on castors, gas lifts and mechanisms. Export buyers specify European standards or BIFMA for the US, and often formaldehyde emission limits for particleboard and MDF panels. Fabric and foam can be tested for flammability where the market requires it.
