Sanitary napkins are specified in IS 5405, which covers absorbency, leakage, pH, the absence of fluorescent brighteners and microbial load, and sets requirements for products claiming to be biodegradable. Government tenders, CSR programmes and large buyers ask for compliance reports, and the same tests support e-commerce listings.
Baby and adult diapers are tested for absorption capacity, rewet, acquisition time and leakage, and for skin safety such as pH and irritation. Biodegradable and compostable claims, which are increasingly common in this category, need their own evidence.
