Headline MeitY Extends BIS Compliance Deadline For Digital TV Receivers IS 18112 To July 2026

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced a major relief for the consumer electronics industry by extending the mandatory certification deadline for Digital Television Receivers.
In a notification issued late last month, the Central Government confirmed that the implementation date for IS 18112:2022 (Digital Television Receiver for Satellite Broadcast Transmission Specification) has been pushed back by six months. The new deadline for compliance is now July 26, 2026.
Key Highlights of the Order:
- Standard: IS 18112:2022
- Product Category: Digital TV Receivers for Satellite Broadcast Transmission
- Previous Deadline: January 26, 2026
- New Enforcement Date: July 26, 2026
Background The Order, originally notified under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021, mandates that all Digital TV Receivers meant for satellite broadcasting must bear the Standard Mark (BIS Registration) before entering the Indian market.
This is the latest in a series of extensions granted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to ensure a smooth transition for manufacturers. The deadline was previously set for October 2025 and then January 2026. The latest extension (Order dated January 22, 2026) acknowledges the industry’s need for additional time to align with the technical specifications and testing requirements of the new standard.
Industry Impact This extension provides a critical window for both domestic manufacturers and international importers. Stakeholders now have an additional six months to:
- Complete product testing at BIS-recognized laboratories.
- Rectify any non-compliance issues in existing inventory.
- Finalize the CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) documentation without disrupting supply chains.
Regulatory Advisory While the deadline has been extended, experts at Instacertify advise manufacturers not to delay the certification process. “The testing parameters for satellite broadcast receivers are comprehensive. Utilizing this grace period to secure certification early will prevent last-minute bottlenecks in July,” the firm noted in a statement.
Effective July 26, 2026, non-compliant products will be prohibited from manufacture, storage, or sale in India.
