Overview of Coal, Coke & Biomass Fuel Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- IS 1350 & IS 436
- Typical turnaround
- 3–5 working days
- Sample needed
- 2–5 kg, sealed
Coal is priced and graded mainly on its gross calorific value (GCV), and its moisture and ash content decide how much heat you actually get and how much ash you must dispose of. The IS 1350 series covers proximate analysis, calorific value and ultimate analysis, while IS 436 sets out how coal and coke should be sampled, which matters as much as the test.
Biomass pellets and briquettes made from agricultural residue are increasingly used in industrial boilers and for co-firing in thermal power plants under the government’s biomass mission. Buyers test them for calorific value, ash, moisture and chlorine, which affects corrosion and slagging.
