Compressed air is used to blow bottles, convey powders, cut and shape food, fill and seal packs and drive pneumatic valves. Where it touches the product or packaging, it is effectively an ingredient. Compressors draw in dust and moisture and can add oil, and pipework can grow microbes, all of which can end up in the product.
ISO 8573-1 classifies air purity by particles, water (pressure dew point) and total oil, and ISO 8573-7 covers microbes. Food and pharma auditors, global brand owners and GFSI schemes expect the quality of product-contact air to be defined and verified. Testing at the points of use, not just at the compressor, shows what reaches the product.
