Overview of Dry Fruits & Nuts Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- FSSAI & export norms
- Typical turnaround
- 5–7 working days
- Sample needed
- 1–2 kg per lot
Aflatoxin is the single biggest risk for nuts and dried fruit. It forms when produce is harvested, dried or stored in warm, humid conditions, and it is unevenly spread through a lot, so representative sampling matters as much as the test itself. The EU’s limits are stricter than FSSAI’s, and shipments of peanuts, pistachios and spices are regularly stopped at EU borders for aflatoxin.
Quality parameters include moisture, free fatty acids and peroxide value (rancidity), insect damage and foreign matter. Dried fruits such as raisins and apricots are checked for sulphur dioxide, a permitted preservative with limits, and imported lots for pesticide residues.
