Overview of Frozen Food Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- FSSAI standards
- Typical turnaround
- 5–8 working days
- Sample needed
- 4 retail packs, frozen
Freezing stops bacteria from growing but does not kill them, and Listeria monocytogenes in particular survives frozen storage. Frozen vegetables, snacks and ready meals are therefore tested for pathogens and hygiene indicators, with extra attention to products that may be eaten after only light heating.
Composition tests confirm the meat, vegetable or filling content declared, and nutrition values for the label. For frozen seafood and meat, the ice glaze is weighed separately, because Legal Metrology rules require the declared net weight to exclude it.
