Pressure cookers have long needed the ISI mark under IS 2347, with tests on the safety valve, gasket release, pressure and handle strength, and several kinds of stainless steel and aluminium utensils have since been brought under BIS certification. Material grade and thickness are the main checks for utensils, because thin or substituted metal is a common defect.
For anything that touches food, buyers and export markets also look at chemical release: lead and cadmium from glazed ceramics, formaldehyde and melamine from melamine tableware, and PFAS from some non-stick coatings, alongside coating adhesion and abrasion. See PFAS testing and food contact migration testing.
