Overview of Animal Feed & Pet Food Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- BIS feed standards
- Typical turnaround
- 5–7 working days
- Sample needed
- 1 kg
BIS standards for compounded cattle feed, poultry feed and other livestock feeds set minimum levels for protein, fat and minerals and maximum levels for fibre, acid-insoluble ash, urea and aflatoxin. Dairy cooperatives, feed mills and integrators test feed and ingredients such as maize, soybean meal, de-oiled cakes and fishmeal on receipt and before dispatch.
Aflatoxin B1 in feed matters for food safety as well, because it passes into milk as aflatoxin M1. Exporters of oilseed meals and feed ingredients also test for residual solvent, GMO status and Salmonella. Pet food makers test nutrient profiles to support complete-diet claims.
