Overview of Non-Alcoholic Beverages Testing
- Tested by
- NABL-accredited partner lab
- Regulation
- FSSAI beverage standards
- Typical turnaround
- 5–7 working days
- Sample needed
- 6 retail bottles or cans
Carbonated and non-carbonated beverages are tested for Brix, total and added sugars, acidity and carbonation to confirm the recipe, and for permitted sweeteners, preservatives such as benzoate and sorbate, and synthetic colours. FSSAI caps caffeine in carbonated drinks and sets a separate range and warning labels for caffeinated (energy) beverages.
Juice-based drinks must meet the fruit content declared on the pack. Microbiological checks such as yeast, mould and coliforms show whether filling and pasteurisation are under control, and heavy metals and packaging migration are checked for new packaging formats.
